Denim-Denim-Denim: A Short Style Overview

1936, 1937, 1942, 1958, or 1963? What do these numbers actually stand for? It’s simple. They are years or, better put, a way to determine the age and cut of a pair of pants. Sounds strange, but it’s true! The older the pants, the wider the leg and the higher the waist. Before 1940, denim was usually worn over wool trousers, so the cuts had to be wider.

This makes it relatively easy to characterize our pants based on the year. The basic cuts are:

1937 Roamer Pant: Wide leg and high waist
1958 Roamer Pant: Normal leg width and standard waist height
1963 Roamer Pant: Slim leg and standard waist height

Each of these three basic styles has its own look and advantages, especially when it comes to shoes.

The 1937 Roamer Pant pairs well with heavy boots because the wide leg complements sturdy footwear.
The 1958 Roamer Pant can be worn with boots and also works well with sneakers.
The 1963 Roamer Pant, with its slim leg, pairs nicely with modern sneakers as it is our "most modern" pant.

Once you’ve found your favorite fit, it’s relatively easy to do further shopping pants since almost all other models are based on these three basic styles.
