Today we give you a little insight in our textile archive. What we have here is a nice example of an officers Ike Jackets also called Eisenhower Jacket. Named after Dwight D. Eisenhower the supreme commander of the Allied Forces in Europe.
It was the typical attire for officers and enlisted men towards the end of WW2. The shorter and sharper appearance made the Ike Jacket to an iconic piece in military apparel of the 20th century because it was adopted by many armies in the post war period.
Our original jacket has been made around 1944 and has the typical superior cloth mostly associated with officers. It features a nice rayon lining and has typical military style Bakelite buttons.
The Pike Brothers Brisbane woven label is typical for privately purchased items. With the 1st and 3rd Army patches it is very likely that the jacket, and the owner, were in service in Europe during or shortly after the war.
Dear Pike Brothers Team,
wow, I’m really impressed! After wetting all our appetites you should indeed produce and offer a reproduction (without Army patches of course) or a similarly styled jacket. Any chances that this will happen in the future?
Best wishes
Karsten from Berlin
