At first glance, Wabash looks like a simple pinstripe. Look closer and those lines tell a different story.

The pattern became closely associated with American railroad workers in the early 20th century. Instead of woven stripes, traditional Wabash patterns were created from rows of tiny dots on indigo cloth, often using resist or discharge printing techniques. It gave everyday working clothes a look that was practical, but surprisingly distinctive.

This week, the 1937 Roamer Vest and 1942 Hunting Pant put Blue Wabash front and centre. Worn together, the pattern does most of the talking.

Underneath, the 1936 Waffle Shirt in Natural keeps things quiet. Its textured cotton adds warmth and contrast without competing with the indigo.

Three pieces, two very different textures and a fabric with more than a century of stories behind it.
