Prison stripes were never meant to make a statement. From the mid 19th century onwards, striped uniforms appeared in American prisons for a very practical reason: they made prisoners immediately recognizable, especially in case of escape.
That history is behind the Alcatraz White fabric of this week’s 1962 OG 107 Short and 1937 Roamer Vest. The bold stripes are printed onto a heavy cotton canvas and give two familiar Pike Brothers cuts a completely different appearance.
Underneath sits the 1963 Roadie Shirt in Texas Black. Light, comfortable and a quiet contrast to the Alcatraz pattern. Even the buttons have an unusual detail: they are made from pressed coffee grounds.
