FAQ

Care

In order to provide the best fit and to get the most longevity out of your Pike Brothers Denim please follow some very simple rules:
Wear your denim for at least 4-6 months without washing.
If you want to wash your garments we strongly recommend to take them to the dry cleaner or use cold hand wash.
If you do wash them yourself keep in mind that the denim will shrink about 6-8% in length.
When washing use cold water and no detergent because it will affect the fabric and take away the raw structure of the denim. Wash your garments INSIDE OUT.
DO NOT put your vintage denim in the dryer.
Simply lay it out flat and let it air dry.

There are wash care labels on all our garments. You should follow the instructions on the label.
Our waxed products, for example our N1 Deck Jackets or C2 Vests, have 4 layers of wax. The fabrics are coated 3x on the outside and 1x on the inside. We use a paraffin based wax. This wax produces a fabric which has excellent water repellent properties and a dry feel. The fabrics are coated with wax before they are cut for sewing so that the coating can be applied evenly. Our fabrics have been so well impregnated with wax that re-waxing is not necessary. You can re-wax your garment using commercially available products such as Sno-Seal or Otter Wax. However, the final result is almost always patchy and uneven. That’s why we don’t recommend it.

Fits

The name that we give our products always reflects a specific vintage style. The further back in time the year is, the wider the leg and the higher the waist. These models will also still have the back cinch and suspender buttons (with the exception of the 1923 Buccanoy Pant). Later years indicate a narrower leg, a lower waist, no suspender buttons and no back cinch.
We have put together a video showing you exactly how and where to measure yourself. When you have taken your measurements, compare them with our size chart to determine the best fit. You will find a size chart at the bottom of each product detail page.
Our web store features a size chart at the bottom of each product detail page. This will help you find your perfect size. If you are not sure about your size, take a garment that fits well and take the same measurements. Refer also to How we measure.
W = the measurement around your waist. L = the measurement straight down the inside leg from the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg hem. All measurements are in inches, 1 inch = 2.5 cm

Interesting Facts

The mass per unit area tells you how many grams one square meter of a fabric weighs. It is expressed in g/m2.
The seam twist that you can get in the legs of your jeans mostly happens to jeans that are made from raw denim or very heavy and dense twill weaves. Twill fabrics have a diagonal weave. When you wash them they tend to twist in the direction of the weave.

Some jeans twist more, others less. It depends on the weight of the fabric, the amount of tension in the weave and how you wash your jeans. This tends to happen more often with our heavier denim fabrics.

Typically, these fabrics are woven in Japan or Germany. We recommend dry cleaning as your best option for these fabrics. Otherwise, you will find that the more often you machine wash your jeans, the more the seams twist around your legs. We consider this to be a part of the character of authentically manufactured vintage jeans and not a quality issue.
NOS products are quite literally Never Out of Stock. This means that they are available all year round and not just for the new season.

Seasonal items are only available at certain times of the year (spring/summer and autumn/winter) and often only produced for one season.
The Pike Brothers General Store is located at our head office and open for business

Our products are manufactured in Portugal and Turkey. We buy our fabrics from small weaving mills around the world, primarily from Portugal, Turkey, Germany and Japan.

Our quality is synonymous with sustainability. We believe that a high quality product that is built to last is the best thing we can do for the planet.
Raw denim simply refers to the unwashed material, as it comes off the loom. The term is often heard in connection with selvage denim.
You can find a Pike Brothers authorized retailer near you here.
A selvage is the seamless edge of a woven fabric. It is created by a continuous cross yarn and prevents the fabric from fraying. Selvage denim is best identified by looking at the inner seams.

It has become associated with high-quality, upper-end garments. The edges of selvage denim are usually marked off with a colored thread. The selvage is the distinguishing characteristic of denim woven on a traditional shuttle loom, typically producing a bolt 90cm wide which comes off the loom with a finished edge.

Traffic-light colors are used to indicate availability: red (out of stock), green (in stock) or amber (limited availability). Choose your color (and/or length) and add the item to your shopping cart. We conduct regular quality controls throughout the manufacturing process: during weaving, cutting, sewing and the final inspection of the finished products. We work with small businesses that are experts in their fields.

These entrepreneurs employ people rather than robots. And people can make mistakes. As Albert Einstein said, “A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.” In other words, mistakes can happen.

However, if you want to exchange an item, you can return it to us without having to pay any duties. You will have to complete a customs declaration of contents (CN23) and attach a copy of the original commercial invoice or the returns form as proof of the fact that the shipment contains a returned item.

The customs declaration and accompanying documents should be securely attached to the outside of the parcel, preferably in an adhesive transparent envelope. Missing or inaccurate customs documents can lead to delays and extra costs due to the shipment having to pass through a customs office instead of being cleared through standard procedures.
