Because it was developed for work *on deck* – for outdoor use on ships.
Deck jackets are a further development of the classic pea coats. In the 1930s and 1940s, the textile industry produced new, weatherproof cotton fabrics.

The N1 Deck Jackets are perfect for winter temperatures.
A brief rain shower is no problem – for prolonged wet weather, we recommend the waxed versions.
Deck jackets have been worn by the U.S. Navy since the 1940s for work on deck. The robust outer fabric and comfortable cut made them particularly popular – they offered protection from wind, spray and cold temperatures.
Waxed deck jackets are treated with paraffin wax. The advantage: greater water resistance, better wind protection and a traditional, functional outdoor finish.
They fit true to size and allow layering such as sweaters or turtle necks.
Yes. We differentiate according to climate zones and intended use:
For warmer temperatures: Deck Zip Jacket
For cold weather and prolonged outdoor use: N1 Deck Jacket (unwaxed or waxed)
Our waxed N1 deck jackets have already been waxed several times. Re-waxing is not necessary – but it is possible. Products such as Sno Seal can be used if you want to apply a new layer of wax.
