Passform

You will find a size chart for each product – usually as the last image in the gallery. Additional information on fit and special features can be found in the product description. Please note that there may be slight size variations depending on the type of fabric.

All our trousers have a model and size stamp on the inside.

Basically, yes – the label corresponds to the size.

However, slight differences may occur. Reasons:
-different fabric thicknesses (thicker fabric = tighter fit)
-different cuts handcrafted production in small workshops
-There is a detailed size chart for each item (usually image 10).

We recommend always comparing these. Slight variations are normal with genuine handcrafted items – but of course only within our strict quality control standards.

We have created a description and video for this purpose. Compare the measured values with the size chart (last image in the article) to find the right size.

Our naming is based on historical items.

-The lower the year: the wider the leg, higher the waistband, braces buttons and cinch back (Example: 1905 Hauler Pant).

-The higher the year: the narrower the leg, lower the waistband, no braces buttons, no cinch back. (Example: 1958 Roamer Pant)

The abbreviations are explained as follows:

W = Waist

L = Length (inside leg length)

in inches, 1 inch = 2.5 cm.

However, in the Odds&Ends section, you will find products that are no longer in production. Here, you can still find remaining sizes at reduced prices.

Customs duties are generally paid by the buyer (both import and export). In the case of exchanges, the return shipment can be made duty-free: Send the shipment with a completed customs declaration (CN23) and a copy of the original commercial invoice or return slip as proof of the return status. Securely attach customs documents to the outside of the parcel – if they are missing, this may result in costly forwarding to the internal customs office.

Care

In the first few weeks, the trousers will adapt to your body. The fibres relax through movement, warmth and wear – the trousers “settle in”.

If you don't wash them during this phase, they will achieve:
-a better fit
-a more stable shape, even after subsequent washes
-less tension in the fabric, because the fabric has time to settle.

In short: wear first, then wash – this is how the trousers will fit best.

For the best possible fit and durability, please follow these instructions: Wear raw denim for at least 4–6 months without washing it. To preserve the colour and hardness of raw denim, it is best to have it dry cleaned. If you want to wash it yourself: turn it inside out and rinse it in the bath with cold water and a little organic detergent; then lay flat to air dry. If using a washing machine: only use a gentle cycle at max. 30°C. Please note: raw denim may shrink 6–8% in length. Do not spin dry or tumble dry; lay flat to air dry.

Washing Insturction

All items have a care label sewn into them. This contains detailed instructions for cleaning. In the online shop, under the item images, there is also a tab with care instructions.

If the trousers are not heavily soiled, a few simple measures will suffice:
-Brush off light surface dirt.
-Air them out, preferably overnight.
-Freeze them – this kills odour-causing bacteria.
-Dry clean them, after consulting with the dry cleaner (the products used may vary).

Important: not all dry cleaning is the same – check beforehand.

Denim should be washed infrequently and aired instead. Grease leather regularly. Detailed washing instructions can be found on our website.

Waxed items (e.g. N1 Deck Jackets or C2 Vests) have four layers of wax (three on the outside, one on the inside, paraffin-based). Due to the heavy impregnation, re-waxing is not necessary. It is possible to do so using commercially available products (Sno-Seal, Otterwachs), but the end result is usually uneven and patchy – therefore we advise against it.

Pre-washed means less shrinkage when washed and an authentic look right from the start.

Denim

Unwashed denim, as it comes off the loom. The term is also often used in connection with selvedge denim.

Our denims are dyed with indigo.

Indigo is a very unique colour that develops over time.

Initially: dark blue

With wear and washing: lighter, with typical signs of wear

This means that over time, each pair of trousers becomes unique, reflecting your personal use.

Indigo is one of the oldest dyes in the world.Historically, it was extracted from plants, but synthetic indigo has been available since the 20th century.

We only use synthetic indigo because it is:
-more colourfast
-more durable and
-easier to control.

We also add a dash of black to our 11 oz and 15 oz fabrics. This ensures that the trousers fade less and are more user-friendly in everyday wear.

Indigo blutet aus – Wasser und Wärme lösen Teile der Farbe aus dem Stoff.

Das ist kein Fehler, sondern ein typisches Merkmal von Indigo.

Je nach Färbetiefe passiert das schneller oder langsamer.

Refers to denim with an elaborately woven edge that prevents fraying. Considered a sign of quality; usually with coloured thread. Characteristic of Schützen looms (fabric width approx. 90 cm), which weave this selvedge as a finish.

The weight of a fabric per square metre, measured in grams per square metre.

This often occurs with raw denim and very heavy/compact twill weaves. The diagonally woven fabric (e.g. twill) tends to twist in the diagonal weave direction during washing. Depends on fabric weight, weave tension and washing method, among other factors; more common in heavy fabrics woven in Japan/Germany. Recommendation: dry clean. The more often the garment is machine washed, the more the side seam twists forward. This effect is part of authentically produced vintage trousers and is not a defect.

Deck Jacket

Because it was developed for work *on deck* – for outdoor use on ships.

Deck Jackets are made from Jungle Cloth – a very dense cotton fabric that is robust, wind‑repellent and naturally water‑resistant.

Deck jackets are a further development of the classic pea coats. In the 1930s and 1940s, the textile industry produced new, weatherproof cotton fabrics.

1942: First model – the Deck Zip Jacket with jungle cloth and wool blanket lining.

1943: Improved ‘Deck Hook Jacket’ with hook fastening for ease of use with gloves.

1943: Introduction of the N1 Deck Jacket – longer cut, jungle cloth on the outside, densely woven wool lining on the inside.

The N1 became the standard for the U.S. Navy and remained in use until the 1950s."

The N1 Deck Jackets are perfect for winter temperatures.

A brief rain shower is no problem – for prolonged wet weather, we recommend the waxed versions.

Deck jackets have been worn by the U.S. Navy since the 1940s for work on deck. The robust outer fabric and comfortable cut made them particularly popular – they offered protection from wind, spray and cold temperatures.

Waxed deck jackets are treated with paraffin wax. The advantage: greater water resistance, better wind protection and a traditional, functional outdoor finish.

They fit true to size and allow layering such as sweaters or turtle necks.

Yes. We differentiate according to climate zones and intended use:

For warmer temperatures: Deck Zip Jacket

For cold weather and prolonged outdoor use: N1 Deck Jacket (unwaxed or waxed)

Our waxed N1 deck jackets have already been waxed several times. Re-waxing is not necessary – but it is possible. Products such as Sno Seal can be used if you want to apply a new layer of wax.
